The Taino were the indigenous people of the Dominican Republic. They were the first to introduce tobacco in the form of cigars to the Western world. “We wanted to pay homage to the cultural roots of the Taino people by creating a Dominican line of cigars,” says Carson Serino, vice president. To create the line, Serino Cigar Co. partnered with the Jochy Blanco of Tabacalera Palma, Santiago, Dominican Republic. All the tobacco is hand selected and aged at least five years. To represent the diversity of the island, Serino specially selected filler tobacco from all the different regions where Jochy has farms. Each cigar vitola in the Heritage line is named after a traditional Taino word. — The Hamaca, meaning hammock, is a robusto, 5 1/8 x 50. The Yocahú, meaning spirit or god of the sky, is a corona gorda, 6 x 47. — The Manicato, meaning bold, valiant person with a loving heart, is a toro, 6 1/4 x 54. — “These three names attempt to touch on the different aspects of the Taino culture. One is an object, one is spiritual, and one describes the people,” Serino explains. “We’re really excited to pay tribute to the ancient tribe with this line.” Arango Cigar Co. announces the Sportsman Jamocha, the latest flavor combination in the Arango Sportsman line. Handmade in Nicaragua, the Arango Sportsman Jamocha is a delectable combination of coffee, espresso and chocolate. Mike Gold President of Arango says, “Arango Sportsman was originally introduced in 1984 as one of the first Full-Line Cigars to offer a subtle vanilla aromatic blend.
