Meet the PCA Staff Where did you grow up and where did you attend school? I grew up in Botetourt County, Virginia, a rural community in the western part of the state. I graduated from Ferrum College, a small private liberal arts college, about 45 miles from where I grew up. What was your first cigar? My first cigar was a La Gloria Cubana, which is why when I first met Ernesto Carrillo I thought I was in the presence of royalty. I remember going into the humidor of our local cigar shop and saying, “That’s the band I want in my hand.” Favorite band and favorite sports team? The Rolling Stones. I thought I was blessed to see them once in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2015, but then I saw them again Labor Day weekend in 2019 in Miami for what was Charlie Watts’ last show before he passed, then again in Vegas in 2021 ... defying the statement, “You can’t always get what you want.” On the sports side, the Washington Nationals, and the other Washington whatever teams ... haha. Favorite quote? “If you have ten thousand regulations you destroy all respect for the law.” - Winston Churchill What part of your mission with PCA do you enjoy the most? Working to build and strengthen a national network of premium cigar state associations capable of working to defend, and to serve as the voice of the premium cigar industry in state capitals and with their federal delegations for years to come.
