PCA Magazine Fall 2019
48 PCA The Magazine | SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER 2019 PREMIUMCIGARS.ORG First off, why did you guys decide to get into the industry? KARL: Cigars have always been a passion of mine, and smoking cigars makes for great fellowship. KADEE: I’ve always been fascinated by cigars, ever since I was little. So, when my dad brought up the idea of opening a lounge, I was all in! Tell me about the Legends. What makes it special? KARL: It opened in June 2018, but that was after three years of building and getting ready. We wanted it to feel like our home, with a lot of the decor the same as our home. We wanted a nice comfy feel when you walk in. The walls were hand torched, and the bar area was hand painted by Kadee. We only have one television in there because we believe a cigar should be smoked and enjoyed with good conversation and not with watching TV and not being sociable. The Lounge opened up around the same time as the cigar launch last year at IPCPR, so it was all one big leap into the cigar industry. We loved it! What’s been one of the biggest challenges and one of the best parts of owning your own lounge? KARL: One of the biggest challenges of owning a lounge was, and still is, finding the right staff. The sad thing is that most people do not have the work ethic like they used to. One of the best parts of owning my own lounge is being able to meet and see all the different people who come in, people you wouldn’t think would enjoy a good smoke. There have been people from so many different places who have come in and it’s just amazing to hear their stories. I love seeing the friendships that have blossomed because of the atmosphere. It’s so inspiring and motivating for me to keep doing what I am doing.
