PCA Magazine Summer 2022
50 PCA The Magazine | VOLUME 3 2022 PREMIUMCIGARS.ORG W Regret, What Is It Good For? | BY JOSH EVARTS, The Vault, Meridian, Idaho The Tobacconist WE ARE ALL FIRMLY ENTERING THE FALL SEASON AS RETAILERS! The weather is cooling off. Hopefully, we are receiving all the latest leaf treats we ordered at the PCA tradeshow in July. Our shelves are full, and we are preparing for robust holiday sales. We also might have entered some troubled waters. That new POS system is glitchy. Tobacco legislation and taxationmight be adding burden to our shop. We lost that key staffmember. Our ‘white whale’ customer moved or is supplementing his purchasing through online retailers. Interest rates have gone up. The mid-term elections are less than a month away. It is easy, when we face all these battle fronts, to get discouraged. We have all had those moments of regret. Why did I hire that guy?Who lumps cigars and cigarettes into the same legislation? When did I place THAT show order? How in the world am I going to pay this bill?Whose idea was it to be a retail tobacconist? “I am ready to face any challenges that might be foolish enough to challenge me.” - Dwight Schrute, Assistant to the Assistant Regional Manager, Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, Inc.
